QU Volleyball Back and Winning on Their Court

Quinnipiac University’s women’s volleyball players saved their team by a victory in the courts, but their latest victory comes on their preferred type of court – the volleyball court.

After thinking they might never play again, the team rebounded to win their 2009 season opener, 8-0, against St. Francis of New York.

Months back, Quinnipiac University tried to spike the sport, along with men's track and men's golf, but the American Civil Liberties Union of Connecticut filed a lawsuit pointing to a Title IX violation. Title IX says no person should be discriminated based on gender.

The women took their fight to the state's courts and won, and the fans were out to give the women a show of support.

“Everybody tried to come out and show their support. Today was the first home game, so I mean we're all family and we had to come and show support for them,” Evenn Baker, a university student, said.

“I'm glad that they’re back and they got reinstated. I really don't like to see any of the sports get cut with the budget.” Chelsea Weintraub said.

The players were not allowed to comment because there is still some legal work to do with the case.
