Diaco Talks QB Situation

Bob Diaco, who will coach his first game for the Huskies this fall, spoke with the media Tuesday on a number of topics, including the up-in-the-air quarterback situation that saw three QBs -- Chandler Whitmer, Tim Boyle and Casey Cochran -- start four games each during last season's three-win campaign.

With spring football in the books, and several months off before the team reconvenes for training camp, Diaco admits that he's far from naming a starter.

"They all need to get bigger, faster, and stronger," he said. "They also need to protect the ball. All the quarterbacks will be working well into August before a decision is made."

Whitmer began the 2013 season before he was replaced by Boyle, then a true freshman. But the offense got worse, and finally Cochran was given a chance and led the team to its only three wins.

As for what Diaco is looking for in a passer, it's pretty simple.

"We try to put our quarterbacks in high-stress situations during practice and being sure we evaluate their decision-making process," he said. "When challenges arise, we want our quarterback to be accountable, responsible and protective of teammates and not looking for an excuse."
