Report: Houston Nutt Interested in UConn Job

TJ Weist is the UConn interim head coach. Whether that changes after the season probably has everything to do with how the team performs the rest of the season. So far, the Huskies are 0-3 since Weist took over for Paul Pasqualoni, who began the season 0-4. Since not much has changed -- at least in terms of the losing -- it's reasonable to think that athletic director Warde Manuel will look outside the school for the next coach.

And that brings us to this report from the Connecticut News-Times: "According to a prominent high school football coach in Connecticut, Houston Nutt reached out to him recently with a phone call to inquire about football in the state," the New-Times' Paul Devlin wrote Tuesday.

Nutt, who previously coached at Arkansas and Ole Miss, currently works as an analyst for CBS Sports Network.

“Houston wanted to know about the landscape of football in Connecticut and what kind of players we had, the skill-level, and the hot-beds for talent,” the coach said. “I guess he’s doing his research. I was taken by surprise a little bit. I’m not sure how he got my cell number.”

Nutt has been out of coaching since 2011 after four years at Ole Miss where he went 24-26. Before that, he compiled a 75-48 record in 10 seasons at Arkansas.
