Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics Inc. in Brookfield will be closing its Brookfield facility in 2016 and 256 jobs are affected, according to a report filed with the state Department of Labor.

The company is cutting 15,000 jobs worldwide, according to Bloomberg, and that amounts to about 4 percent of the company’s total workforce.

The Siemens Healthcare facility is located at 101 Silver Mine Road.

"Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics can confirm that it will consolidate its Brookfield, CT diagnostic instrument manufacturing operations into the company’s Flanders, NJ facility," a statement from the company said.

It appears that the layoffs will be staggered in three stages between November 2014 and September 2016.

"The Brookfield site will be closed after the completion of the consolidation. This decision was made to further strengthen our processes, increase productivity, and better serve our customers," Siemens officials said.

Employees from the Brookfield facility will be offered "separation and outplacement benefits," as well the opportunity to apply for other positions within the Siemens organization, including positions in Flanders.
