40 Arrested in Immigration Raid

The raid began two days after a program went into effect for police to share fingerprints with ICE.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement has arrested 40 people in Connecticut during a four-day raid.

Operation Threats Against the Community began on Feb. 24, two days after the Secure Communities program, which calls for state and local law enforcement agencies to automatically share fingerprints with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, went into effect. It went on for four days and ICE officers arrested 44 people in Massachusetts and Connecticut, as well as one person who they said had two outstanding arrest warrants in New York and Texas.

The Connecticut arrests happened in Bridgeport, Danbury, Darien, Derby, East Hartford, Hamden, Hartford, Meriden, Naugatuck, New Britain, New Haven, New London, Shelton, Stamford, Stratford, Trumbull, Waterbury and Willimantic.

According to a news release from ICE, 24 of the people arrested had felony convictions and many had prior convictions for crimes, such as indecent assault and battery of a child, sexual assault, possessing and selling dangerous drugs, drunken driving and larceny charges.

All are being held in ERO custody pending immigration removal proceedings.

ICE has not released the names of the people being held.
