AMR Ambulance Involved in Accident in Bridgeport

The driver of an SUV was arrested after fleeing the scene of an accident involving an AMR ambulance in Bridgeport early Saturday morning.

Bridgeport police said the ambulance was traveling on North Avenue near Wood Avenue when it was involved in an accident with an SUV around 2:30 a.m. An AMR medic was trapped inside when the ambulance struck a tree. Details on the victim’s condition were not released.

The driver of the SUV, identified as 18-year-old Jose Gonzalez-Miranda, of Bridgeport, was arrested and charged with evading responsibility, operating without a license, and driving through a red traffic control signal.

Police said the ambulance was not transporting a patient when the crash occurred.
