1 Dead After Excavator Tips Over on Founders Bridge in East Hartford

The operator of an excavator died after the vehicle tipped over in East Hartford on Wednesday. 

The 52,000-pound John Deere excavator toppled over at the Founders Bridge at the end of Route 2, near exit 2 heading toward Interstate 84 East, around 12:45 p.m. and John Dubray, 60, of Bethlehem, was thrown from the cab of the vehicle, state police said. 

Dubray was rushed to Hartford Hospital for life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead, state police said. 

East Hartford firefighters at the scene told NBC Connecticut they believe the Dubray was thrown from the machine to the ground below. 

Connecticut State Police, the Department of Construction Services, the Office of the State Fire Marshal and a Occupational Safety and Health Administration employee are investigating.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct a post-mortem examination to determine cause and manner of death.
