As the heat rises, towns across the state are opening cooling centers.

The sweltering heat wave this week is forcing cooling centers to open across the state.
The centers are only open for Wednesday, unless otherwise stated. Call 211, search online or use this list

Avon

Town Hall, 60 West Main St., open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This might change if conditions warrant.

Bloomfield
Alvin B. Wood Human Resources Center, 330 Park Ave., Bloomfield, open Tuesday through Friday, July 19 to 22, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Visitors should bring emergency contact phone numbers, along with any food, medications or other items they might need during the day. Service dogs are welcome.

Bolton

Senior Center, 104 Notch Road, Bolton, open Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4p.m., Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Bentley Memorial Library, 206 Bolton Center Road, Bolton, open Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Bridgeport

The main bus terminal at 710 Water St. will be open as a cooling center, Thursday through Sunday, noon to 6 p.m. each day. The American Red Cross will provide cold water.

Bristol

The Christian Fellowship Center on Prospect Street is open on Fridays from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for dinner and Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. for lunch. The facility is air conditioned on severe heat days.

The Zion Lutheran Soup Kitchen is open for meals Monday through Thursday, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. they are located at 27 Judd Street.

Brookfield

Brookfield Senior Center, 100 Pocono Road, Brookfield, open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m.to 4:30 p.m.

Canton

Community Center, 40 Dyer Ave., 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. If conditions warrant, it might be open later.

Durham

Durham Activity Center, 350 Main St., Thursday and Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please bring your own snacks.

The Durham Town Hall, 30 Townhouse Road, and Durham Library, at 7 Maple St. are also available for cooling centers. Both facilities open at 9 a.m.. The Town Hall closes at 5 p.m. and the library at 9 p.m.

East Haddam
Senior Center, 15 Great Hillwood Road, open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Center might be open later.

East Hartford

Raymond Library, 840 Main St., East Hartford, Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Community Cultural Center, 50 Chapman Place, Monday to Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Thursday, 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

South End Senior Center, 70 Canterbury St., Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

North End Senior Center, 30 Remington Road open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Public Safety Complex, 31 School St., the lobby is open 24 Hours/7 days a week

Enfield

Central Library, 104 Middle Road, open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday to Friday; and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Pearl Street Library Branch, 159 Pearl St. open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Thursday; noon to 6 p.m. on Friday; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Enfield Senior Center, 299 Elm Street open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday to Thursday; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday.

Village Center in Thompsonville, 100 High St., open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday. Use rear entrance. The only pets allowed are service animals.

Glastonbury

Riverfront Community Center is located at 300 Welles St., will open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Welles-Turner Library, 2407 Main St., Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Wednesday, noon to 9 p.m.; Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Granby

Hartford

All Hartford sites will be open Monday to Friday this week.

Parker Memorial Community Center, 2621 No. Main St., open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Pope Park Recreation Center, 30 Pope Drive, open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Metzner Center, 680 Franklin Ave., open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
North End Senior Center, 80 Coventry St., open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

South End Senior Wellness Center, 830 Maple Ave., open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Parkville Senior Center, 11 New Park Ave., open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Hispanic Senior Center, 45 Wadsworth St., open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Hispanic Health Council, 175 Main St. will open its doors to residents for relief from the heat from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The city's outdoor pools will be open for open swim on Thursday and Friday, 1 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., and Sunday, from noon to 5 p.m.  

Hebron

Douglas Library, 22 Main St., Hebron, open Monday and Wednesday, 1 to 8 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday, 10 a.m.to 8p.m., Friday, noon to 6p.m.

Russell Mercier Senior Center, 14 Stonecroft Drive, Hebron, open Monday to Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 4p.m.; Thursday, 8 a.m. to 6p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Manchester

Senior Center, 549 East Middle Turnpike, open Monday to Friday, 8:30 am. to 4:30 p.m. Town libraries are available for "walk ins" at Mary Cheney Library, 586 Main St, Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Whiton Memorial Library 100 North Main St., Monday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Mansfield

Mansfield Public Library: Monday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The following cooling center locations are for seniors only:

Cooling centers are open from Wednesday, July 20 to Friday, July 22

North Haven Senior Center, 189 Pool Road open noon to 8 p.m.

North Haven Library, 17 Elm St. open noon to 9 p.m. on Thursday and noon to 5 p.m. on Friday.

Norwalk

Norwalk City Hall Community Room, 125 East Ave. open Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Norwich

Rose City Senior Center, 8 Mahan Drive open Thursday, Friday and possibly Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with extended hours if the situation warrants. The cooling center will be staffed with the normal personnel and by the Red Cross if extended hours go into effect.

Plainville

Public Library, 200 East St., open from Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Senior Center open Monday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Tuesday, through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. An alternative is A.M.C Theaters, 220 New Britain Ave.

Ridgefield

Ridgefield Parks & Recreation Department, 195 Danbury Road, open Monday to Friday, 6 p.m. to 10p.m.; Saturday, 6 a.m.to 6 p.m. and Sunday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Simsbury

Dial-A-Ride is available to transport seniors and persons with disabilities in need of transportation.

Somers

Senior Center, 19 Battle St. open Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Additional hours will be determined by the town emergency management director, based on circumstances.

Southington

Calendar House is open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The library is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

South Windsor

On Thursday, the South Windsor Public Library on Sullivan Avenue will serve as a cooling center from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

On Friday, the South Windsor Community Center on Nevers Road is available as a cooling center from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

South Windsor Public Library on Sullivan Avenue is available as a cooling center on Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Centers will not be available during the overnight hours.

Stafford

Stafford Town Library, Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Closed on Sunday. (860) 684to 2852

Wethersfield

Willard Pool is extending its hours to 7:45 p.m., 8:45 p.m. or darkness (whichever is earlier) Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

In addition to its regular hours, Mill Woods Pool will be open from 4:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Windsor
