Three people were transported to local hospitals after a head-on crash on Route 44 n Canton, near Bristol's Farm.

A white van and a silver Jeep Liberty were towed from the scene, NBC Connecticut's Debra Bogstie reported on Tuesday morning.

One person was trapped and needed to be extricated by firefighters, according to police. The vehicles suffered severe damage and the injuries were believed to be serious, according to police.

LifeStar was requested, but was not able to respond because of the rainy weather.

The road was closed for around an hour and has since reopened.
