Woman Charged In Fatal I-95 Crash: Cops

A Hartford woman has been arrested on Manslaughter charges after police say she caused an accident on I-95 that left two people dead and shut down the highway for over six hours.

25-year-old Yadira Torres of 100 Benton Street has been charged with two counts of 2nd Degree Manslaughter, Reckless Driving and Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs according to State Police.

Torres was traveling with three other occupants on I-95 northbound at exit 10 in Darien shortly after 6 a.m. when her Dodge Caliber lost control hitting a tractor-trailer.

The tractor-trailer carrying two occupants spun around and overturned, which caused the container truck to separate from the trailer and catch fire police said.

Several passers-by were able to get one of the occupants out of the truck, however she succumbed to her injuries.

Another occupant of the truck was also killed.

Torres and her three passengers were transported to Norwalk Hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The Darien and Norton Heights Fire Departments assisted in extinguishing the truck fire.

Torres is being held on $100,000 bond and is expected to appear at Stamford Superior Court on Monday.

State police ask any witnesses of the accident to contact Troop G, Bridgeport at 203-696-2500.
