A driver died on Thursday after hitting a tree head on in Wallingford on Thursday.
Interstate 91 south in Wallingford was closed following the accident, state police said.
Billy Rubendunst, 32, of Clinton, was traveling south on I-91 between exit 15 and the Wallingford rest area when he lost control and hit the right shoulder guardrail at the Durham Road overpass, according to police.
After striking the guardrail, Rubendunst's car continued southbound, crossing all three traffic lanes toward the center median. Once the car traveled into the center median, it continued and eventually struck a tree head-on, state police said.
Rubendunst, who was the only occupant, died from the impact of the tree.
The case is still under investigation.
