Name of Fatal East Haven Crash Victim Released

Coe Avenue in East Haven is closed after a bad crash involving a bike and a van.

A 51-year-old East Haven man was killed when a van struck his bicycle on Coe Avenue in East Haven on Monday morning.

The man has been identified as Jeffrey Harrison.

Police said Cheryle Tyson, 52, of Milford, was driving the Sienna minivan that struck Harrison at 11:49 a.m.

No charges have been filed.

The van is from Sarah Inc., a Guilford-based organization for children and adults with disabilities, according to an NBC Connecticut crew at the scene.

It was carrying two people in addition to Tyson when it stuck the bicyclist, flipped over and hit a utility pole.

Harrison was revived at the scene, but suffered critical injuries and was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he died, according to officials.

Tyson and the passengers were taken to Yale-New Haven and St. Raphael's hospitals with serious but not life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Neighbors said they heard the crash, ran out and started pulling people out of the van.

One neighbor used an ax to break the window to get to the people inside, a resident said.
What caused the crash is not yet known.

Coe Avenue was closed between Dewey and Cold Spring avenues, as well as Soundview Avenue as police investigated the scene.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Officers Paulson or Tracy at the East Haven Police Department at 203-468-3820.
