Police Identify People Involved in Fiery Newington Crash

One person was killed and three people were injured in a crash in Newington.

One person was killed and three people were injured in a fiery two-car crash in Newington on Jan. 19.

The crash happened just before 10:30 p.m. at Willard Avenue, Route 173, and Veterans Drive and shut down Willard Avenue, in front of Newington High School.

Police said one person died at the scene. She has been identified as Sonia Evans, 56, of New Britain.

Police said she was a passenger in a 1997 Nissan Quest driven by Hugh Storey, 64, of New Britain. He remains at Hartford Hospital in serious condition.

Another passenger, Theresa Gunn, 44, of Hartford, remains at Hartford Hospital in serious condition, according to police.

Damian Camponella, 22, of Newington, was driving the other vehicle, a 1993 Honda Accord, police said. He remains at St. Francis Hospital in serious condition.

The Mid-State Accident Investigation Team is investigating. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call the Newington Police Department at (860) 666-8445.
