Man Injured in Officer-Involved Crash Dies

The cruiser collided with a car, which then rammed through the brick wall of a church.

A 50-year-old Hartford man who was in a crash that involved a Hartford police officer has died. 

On July 13, a police cruiser sent a car Anthony Mansfield was in into a church on Albany Avenue near Woodland Street.

Police said that a cruiser and a car collided just after 1 a.m. this morning, sending the car into the North United Methodist Church.

"On behalf of the City of Hartford, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Anthony Mansfield's family for their loss," Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra and Police Chief James C. Rovella said in a news release. 

Police have not said if the cruiser was in pursuit of the car or what caused the crash.

"The Hartford Police Crime Scene Division, charged with investigating all motor vehicle accidents in the city, with the assistance of the Connecticut State Police and State's Attorney's Office, is investigating the incident," Rovella said. "I ask anyone with information that may aid in the investigation  to contact Detective Michael Chauvin of the Crime Scene Division at 860-4299."

The officer was in good condition after the crash, police said.
