Meadowlark Lemon “Stunned and Saddened” By Allegations in Child Support Suit

Harlem Globetrotters legend Meadowlark Lemon, 83, said he is "stunned and saddened, by allegations in a suit filed against him alleging he was skimping on child support payments.

The case, which was supposed to be heard this month, but has been continued until August and Lemon reached out to NBC Connecticut to respond to the report on the suit and the allegations:

“Until now, I’ve kept my relationship with my kids private. For my extended family, friends and fans, I felt compelled to respond to the false public allegations made against me earlier this week by my 48-year-old son, Jonathan Kurt Lemon and his 78-year-old mother, Willye Lemon Campbell.

“I received a Motion-for-Contempt this past October regarding my divorce in April 1977, nearly 40 years ago. Jonathan and his mother are asking for a payment of $250K, using unsupported allegations claiming that I did not fulfill the court-ordered alimony and child-support.

“While I am stunned and saddened by these allegations, I am confident the court will find these allegations to be false.

“Taking care of my children has always been important to me. I have 5 children with my ex-wife Willye, and Jon is the youngest. There were 3 children at home, and 2 in college at the time of our divorce. I love my kids. Providing for them is one of the most important things I’ve ever done.

“Thanks to all of you from around the world who have given me your tremendous show of support and encouragement.

“I will be happy to discuss this further after the motion has been settled in court.”
