New Hartford Line Reaches Capacity on Opening Weekend

The new Hartford Line rail line is closed to new passengers on Sunday afternoon reaching capacity.

The Hartford Line tweeted that ridership has exceeded available capacity around 1:00 p.m.

All Hartford Line train service is being provided to help riders return to their original destination. Additional trains have also been added including a new train departure from Springfield to New Haven at 5 p.m

Buses are also being dispatched to Hartford Union Station to help relieve heavy crowding.

CTDOT is asking all customers making discretionary or optional trips to change their plans so there's room on trains for customers to get home.

On Saturday, experts say over 10,300 people took advantage of free travel weekend. While tickets were free this weekend, starting tomorrow, a one-way ticket will cost eight-dollars.

The train will take 45 minutes to get to Hartford from New Haven, making three stops along the way in Wallingford, Meriden, and Berlin, and 81 minutes from New Haven to Springfield, stopping in Windsor and Windsor Locks. From there, passengers will be able to board others lines and travel even further.
