Toddler's Aunt Describes Pit Bull Attack

Says baby was asleep when dogs somehow got to her.

The porch of Erica Hobdy's home has a small shrine to 20-month-old Neveah Angel Bryant, killed Friday by Hobdy's three pit bulls.

Justice was swift for King, Trina, and Mayno, the three dogs who mauled the toddler.  They were put down.  While West Haven police continue to investigate the tragedy, the victim's family is trapped in it.

"She was in my kid's room sleeping," said Hobdy, with her mother at her side. "Somehow the door got opened.  I don't know how the door got opened and the dogs got into the room.  By the time I got upstairs, my niece was already gone."

The chief state medical examiner has ruled it was an accidental death.  The girl's family looks at it a different way.

"Neveah was an angel," said Gwenda Bryant, the girl's grandmother and Hobdy's mother. "And God just wanted his angel back."
