Police Arrest Suspect in Fire That Destroyed Chinese Restaurant

Police have arrested the person they said intentionally fire to the Golden Wok Chinese restaurant in Prospect last fall.

Matthew V. Garguilo, 28, of Enfield, is accused of setting the fire that destroyed the Chinese restaurant on the morning of Sept. 15, according to police.

Firefighters from Prospect, Bethany and Waterbury responded and put out the fire on 14 Waterbury Road.

The fire also damaged the Masonry Inc and Chimney business next door. 

Police said after an extensive investigation, they determined Garguilo was the suspect who set the business ablaze and charged him on Thursday. Garguilo is currently incarcerated with the Connecticut Department of Correction on unrelated charges, police said.

Garguilo's charges in he arson case include second-degree conspiracy to commit arson, third-degree conspiracy to commit burglary, conspiracy to commit possession of burglar's tools and first-degree conspiracy to commit criminal mischief. 

There is also a warrant out of Naugatuck, charging him with first-degree conspiracy to commit criminal mischief in a case at a Naugatuck home that police said is a linked case.
