Tractor-Trailer Crashes After Speeding in Middlefield: Police

A tractor-trailer driveway was taken to the hospital on Wednesday morning after driving too fast and crashing on Jackson Hill Road in Middlefield, according to state police.

Police said Mehmedovic Hamdija, 56, of Jacksonville, Florida, lost control just after 7 a.m. and rolled onto the guardrails along the northbound lane of Jackson Hill Road.

"It looks like it veered off the road, 100 or 200 yards up the road, for what reason, we don't know," Jason Wickham,  Middlefield Fire Department assistant chief, said on Wednesday morning.

Hamdija was taken to Hartford Hospital for treatment of "incapacitating injuries" and was issued an infraction for driving too fast in the rain, according to police.

Department of Energy and Environmental Protection officials also responded after the truck, carrying large pipes, started to leak fuel.

Police said the tractor-trailer was totaled.
