Twain House Gets $65,000 Grant

The Mark Twain House & Museum in Hartford is getting a financial boost from the Hartford Financial Services Group.

It has awarded $65,000 to the organization that runs the historic home.

The grant will go toward hiring a historical preservation consultant to review the property, cover part of the costs of organizing the annual fall fund-raising gala and finance two "Hartford Free Visit Days," in which city residents will be invited to visit the house and museum at no charge and help pay for educational programs at nearby public schools.

Mark Twain lived in the home for 17 years and wrote many of his best-known works there.
