Chaos in Canada's Capital: Soldier Killed in Shooting

A soldier was shot and killed at the National War Memorial in Canada's capital city of Ottawa on Wednesday, and dozens of shots were fired inside the nearby Parliament building, where members of the legislature barricaded themselves in rooms to escape the violence, authorities and witnesses said. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper bluntly declared the shooting a terrorist attack. The Parliament complex remained on lockdown Wednesday night and the motive behind the attack is still unclear. A gunman who was shot dead by security forces has been identified as Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, 32. Canadian media, quoting an aunt, identified the victim as Cpl. Nathan Cirillo. President Obama called the attacks "outrageous" in a phone call with Harper. The attack comes two days after a man ran down two Canadian soldiers in his car in Montreal in what authorities called an apparent terrorist attack.
