Party in the Center of the Big Rivalry

The geographical midpoint between the Patriots and Giants home fields is having a party.

The small town of Durham is split when it comes to New York Giants and New England Patriot fans, but that’s not all. It is also the exact geographical midpoint of the two regions.

Durham is right in the middle of the Patriots’ Gillette Stadium and the Giants’ MetLife Stadium, giving reason for ESPN to use Coginchaug Regional High School as a domain for a Super Bowl Sunday broadcast. http://www.townofdurhamct.org/controls/NewsFeed.aspx?FeedID=1287

Though no strangers to publicity, since HBO was in Durham in 2008 when the Giants defeated the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII, this is the first time they can use their newly opened turf field, the New Haven Register. http://www.nhregister.com/articles/2012/01/31/sports/doc4f28c7aabdadb762290731.txt

ESPN’s flagship program “SportsCenter,” hosted by Karl Ravech, will be in Durham from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Sunday to enhance the hype about the northeastern head-to-head.

They will report live from the new football field.

Gary Paxton, president of the football club, told the Middletown Press there will be activities, refreshments will be served and attendees will receive T-shirts.
