Wolcott Man Accused in Gruesome Ear Biting Incident

Man charged in attack outside Fort Lauderdale beachside bar

A Wolcott man has been charged, accused of biting off another man's ear during a wild brawl in Fort Lauderdale last month that was captured on video.

According to a Fort Lauderdale Police report of the incident, Jon Lindeman, of Plantation, Florida, was walking outside Fat Tuesday on State Road A1A on March 18 when he encountered Joseph DiDonato, 29, of Wolcott, the Sun Sentinel reports.

The incident has gotten thousands of views on YouTube.

"He bit my ear off man," Lindeman is heard telling the officer in the video, which shows Lindeman with blood streaming down the side of his head and a portion of his ear missing.

The video of the incident led police to DiDonato, who was charged with aggravated battery and disorderly conduct. He was later released from jail on bond, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

DiDonato's attorney, Martin Minnella, told the Sun Sentinel that his client was on vacation in South Florida and has no recollection of what happened because he was severely intoxicated.

Minnella said DiDonato plans to plead not guilty.

Lindeman was taken to Broward General Medical Center for surgery, but doctors told him the severed part was re-attachable. He said he might have to undergo cosmetic surgery to fix it.
