The Boston Red Sox were founded in 1901 as one of the American League's eight charter franchises. They were the dominant team in baseball during the early 20th century, winning five of the first 13 championships. But after winning the 1918 Word Series, they fell victim to the so-called "Curse of the Bambino" -- named in honor of Babe Ruth, whom the team sold to their hated rivals, the New York Yankees. The team finally won their sixth World Series championship in 2004, following a stunning come-from-behind victory over the Yankees in the American League Championship Series, and yet another title in 2007. They have called Fenway Park home since 1912.
