NBC Connecticut and Telemundo’s Feeding Our Families food drive along with our NBC stations in New York donated enough food to provide more than 1.9 million meals throughout the tri-state area.

In Connecticut, we helped collect more than 770,000 meals thanks to the generosity of people across the state.

“We are beyond excited here at Foodshare this is a tremendously successful food drive I can’t stress enough,” said Jason Jakubowski, President and CEO of Foodshare. “I hope that the momentum that we created this week along with NBC, Telemundo, and Stop & Shop, we’re able to continue throughout the next couple of months. Hunger does not just happen at the holidays.”

At Hope For Life Pantry in Granby, volunteers spent all Monday morning going through food and stocking shelves.

“I have just never seen that about of care from people that were not in need reaching out to the people who were in need,” said Pastor Al Royal, who runs the pantry.

Royal says he’s beyond grateful for your generosity during the Feeding Our Families event. It was a food drive presented by NBC Connecticut and Telemundo Connecticut held at more than 85 Stop & Shop stores in our state. They collected so much stuff this weekend they didn’t even have enough room in their pantry they had to use the storage room to hold the overflow.

“We have never collected this much food,” Royal said. “We stocked our food pantry and right now probably have seven or eight weeks supply of food. So for the next two months, it can carry us through serving 50 to 60 families every week.”
