Napier, Giffey Injuries Loom

Cincinnati UConn Basketball

On paper, the Huskies are a mediocre-at-best group short on talent and experience. In reality, they're one of the surprises of the Big East and a NCAA Tournament team if not for the well-documented APR sanctions. Over the weekend and without their best player, Shabazz Napier, UConn fell to Cincinnati, 61-56.

Napier injured his right foot against Georgetown in last week's double-overtime loss and he was in a boot prior to tip-off in Cincy. According to's Gavin Keefe, Napier is still experiencing discomfort and will continue to wear a walking boot.

There's more bad news: junior Niels Giffey fractured his right index finger against the Bearcats and it's likely that, with two games remaining, his 2012-13 season is over.

RJ Evans replaced Napier in the lineup and he finished the game with 2 points, 2 assists, 6 rebounds and 3 turnovers in 33 minutes of action.

With just two games left in the season, the Huskies have two goals: get to 20 wins (they're currently 19-9) and avoid a three-game losing streak, which would be their first of the season.

Next up: UConn travels to USF on Wednesday, then they wrap things up Saturday in Gampel against Providence.
