Man Struck Along Busy Shopping Route

A pedestrian struck along Boston Post Road in Orange had shoppers asking for change Wednesday night.

Witnesses said a man in his 60s was crossing Boston Post Road around 5:45 p.m. when he was struck by a car. He was taken to the hospital with head injuries.

Stores line both sides of the street, making it attractive to shoppers. But the speeding cars and lack of crosswalks leave pedestrians darting cars just to get from one side to the other.

"It's difficult to cross over the highway. Some people do stop, some people don't stop, some people just keep going," said Ella Wiggins, of New Haven.

She, like many others, want Orange officials to paint crosswalks and enforce the 35-mile-per-hour speed limit.

"They should have lights so we can touch the button and go across the street." said Wiggins.

Police are not releasing any information about the victim, his condition or the cause of the accident.
