What You're Doing Tonight – Apr. 2

Our first choice on the fun menu tonight takes you on a little bit of a drive, but we think it’ll be worth it.

The indie rock band Gomez (they’re on Dave Matthews’ label, so they know what they’re doing) is playing in Northampton, Mass.  Yes, it’s the same Gomez you just saw rocking out on Jimmy Fallon Tuesday night. (Watch them perform Airstream Driver on Fallon here.)

They’re at the Pearl Street Night Club on, well, Pearl Street in Northampton. Funny how that works. Opener is Black Joe Lewis.  Looks like you're shelling out $23, but you get to say "I saw them when...".

Want to stick closer to home? How about the Local Hip Hop Showcase at Toad’s Place in New Haven, which is becoming quite the hot spot in that scene these days. Oni.O, Family Affair, Ladi Rock, Get Money Boyz and more are throwing it down. Doors open at 7 p.m., show's at 7:30 p.m. Costs you $10 to get in.

And if you’re looking for some calmer culture, the Phoenix Art After Hours is still going strong at the Wadsworth Atheneum.  It happens the first Thursday of every month – which is today. It’s $5 to get in, or free if you’re a Phoenix employee or museum member. It’s stimulating conversation and fascinating art.

UConn Opera performs at 5 p.m. Then at 6, Kerry James Marshall is scheduled to talk about his “Souvenir” series of paintings. If you bring a souvenir and present it at the admissions desk, you’ll receive a $1 beverage coupon. And the museum stays open late, until 8 p.m.
