One Man Dead After Shooting in Coventry

State police are investigating the death of a 62-year-old Coventry man who took his own life on New Year's Day after he threatened a woman.

Craig McKinney had reportedly threatened a female resident with a weapon around 3:00 p.m., said Lt. J. Paul Vance, state police spokesman.

When Coventry officers arrived at the home on 122 Cooper Lane, McKinney was inside his vehicle in his driveway.

Officers tried to talk with McKinney, but he was not cooperative and refused to show his hands while he displayed a weapon inside of his vehicle, said Vance.

Officers attempted to disarm McKinney who became agitated and shot himself, said Vance. He was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS officials.

A cause of death will be determined later by the office of the State's Chief Medical Examiner.

The case remains under investigation by the Connecticut State Police.
