‘Prisoners' Filming Delayed

Filming for the much-anticipated major motion picture "Prisoners" has been pushed back.

It's not happening until March, the Valley Independent Sentinel.

Filming was supposed to start in Derby and Shelton in late January or early February.

Buzz and interested swelled last month, when filmmakers sent a letter saying they would be looking for about 750 extras for the film.

That turned Derby City Hall into a casting office of sorts. The calls started flooding in, and then there were the letters from people trying to figure out how they could become an extra.

"I just signed up and they're gonna call the extra's back if they need them," Andrew Lawlor recently told NBC Connecticut.

Derby Economic Director Sheila O'Malley told the Valley Independent Sentinel that any casting call information would be published on the city's Web site along with the Connecticut film division's Web site.

“I asked and the executive producer said they’re pushing the date back a little bit,” O’Malley told the Valley Independent Sentinel.

Some people speculate the delay is because the film still hasn't announced its star. Producers have been telling local officials and residents they’ve been trying to land Hugh Jackman, who played “Wolverine” in the “X-Men” films.

“Prisoners” is about two families who live across the street from each other and will be directed by Antoine Fuqua, who also directed the movie "Training Day."

“These lifelong friends are thrust into turmoil when their two youngest daughters go missing. The movie centers on the family’s desperation in finding their children with the help of their neighbors and local police force; especially one police detective,” Starke told the Valley Independent Sentinel.
