Conn. Man Killed in West Virginia Plane Crash

Harry Weber died when his plane struck a house.

A Danbury man died after a small plane crashed into a home in West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle.

The fixed-wing Arion Lightning veered off the runway on Wednesday afternoon as it prepared to take off from the Green Landings private airfield in Hedgesville. The plane struck the foundation of the house and a deck behind the house.

Media outlets report that no one inside the home was injured.

The Berkeley County Sheriff's Department identified the pilot as Harry L. Weber, 70. He was the only person on the plane. He made the plane from a kit, WHAG in Maryland reports.

The Danbury News-Times reports that Weber's last known address was in Danbury and that he was listed as the president of Stepping Stone Farm in Ridgefield.

He spent seven months building it and flew to West Virginia earlier in the week, according to post he made online on Monday.  He planned to fly back to Connecticut after a 40-hour test phase.

The sheriff's department said Weber was taken to a hospital in Fairfax, Virginia where he died.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA will investigate the crash.
