2 Arrested in Hartford Sizzurp Bust

Hartford police arrested two men during a Sizzurp bust in Hartford after a month-long investigation. 

Since September, police have been investigating someone suspected of selling large quantities of Sizzurp, which is a mix meant to give a euphoric high. It combines the anti-nausea drug promethazine with codeine cough medicine and soda, police said. 

Detectives identified one suspect as 22-year-old Miguel Ortiz, "Miggy,"of East Hartford. During undercover buys, police seized 60 ounces of Sizzurp, then obtained a search warrant for his vehicle. 

On Oct. 13, detectives stopped Ortiz’s car in Pope Park and said they found several bottles of "Sizzrup" -- 100 ounces all together -- and two prescription bottles of promethazine with codeine cough medicine. 

Ortiz was arrested and charged with possession of narcotics, illegal obtaining and sale of prescription medicine, possession with intent to sell narcotics and conspiracy sale of narcotics of $200,000. 

His passenger, 21-year-old Aiveniece Estrada, of New Britain, was charged with possession

of narcotics, illegal obtaining and sale of prescription medicine, possession with intent to sell narcotics and conspiracy sale of narcotics, police said. 

Police said they seized 10 bottles of "lean” or syrup, two prescription bottles of Promethazine with Codeine Cough medicine and one bag of marijuana.
