Humanitarian Group Helps Storm-Ravaged New Yorkers

Volunteers from Stamford-based AmeriCares have taken to the streets of Far Rockaway, Queens to help residents battered by Hurricane Sandy.

The AmeriCares mobile clinic is in the Rockaways this week, allowing an important medical clinic to continue treating storm victims despite flood damage.

Staff of the Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center in the Arverne section of the Rockaways is treating patients in the mobile clinic until the facility reopens.

Fourteen of the clinic’s exam rooms were flooded by Hurricane Sandy and the clinic staff is using the AmeriCares mobile clinic to treat patients until the damage can be repaired.

About 250 volunteers are also helping remove dangerous mold, mud and debris swept into homes by the storm.
