State Rep Arrested, Charged With DUI

State Police: Lawmaker failed field sobriety test

State Rep. Brian O'Connor was arrested Saturday and charges with drunken driving offenses.

A trooper stopped O'Connor for speeding on Route 9 in Haddam just before 6 p.m. Saturday, police said. He failed a field sobriety test, according to troopers, and was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

He was later released after posting $500 bond and is due in court on Dec. 19.

O'Connor, a Democrat, was elected to the Connecticut House of Representatives for the first time in 2001.

He serves the 35th District, which includes Clinton, Killingworth and Westbrook. He also serves as the Director of the Middlesex Chamber of Commerce, according to his biography on a state Web site.

He did not immediately return a telephone message left at his home seeking comment.
