Car Hits Elderly Home, Bursts Into Flames

A car went over a 6-foot chain link fence and hit the side of the home, around 3:30 a.m., burst into flames.

A fiery crash early Tuesday morning woke sleeping residents of a housing complex for elderly and disabled people in Bridgeport.

A car went over a 6-foot chain link fence and hit the side of the home on Stewart Street around 3:30 a.m., burst into flames and fire spread to the building, officials said.

The flames from the car spread to a wall of the building and the roof, officials said, and the building was evacuated.

The driver of the car was the only person injured in crash at 75 Stewart St., according to fire officials.

The driver's name and condition haven't been released.

Officials said residents got out safely, but four residents were displaced from their homes.
