Chevy to Debut Electric Car in Connecticut

Get your electric cord ready, the Chevy Volt is coming to Connecticut.

We've been added to the list of states where General Motors' electric car will debut later this year.

Connecticut, New York and New Jersey joins the original list, which included California, Michigan and Washington, D.C., according to GM CEO Ed Whitacre.  The Volt will also debut in Austin, Texas.

GM says the car can travel 40 miles on electric power alone.  After that, a small gasoline engine will kick in to generate power for the electric motor.

To celebrate the rollout, the Chevy Volt will embark on a four-day "Freedom Drive" from Austin to New York, Whitacre said Thursday.

The car should hit Connecticut showrooms in November.
