Crane Collapses

A construction crane fell over into a nearby parking lot

Emergency crews in Stratford responded to reports of a crane collapse.

The 40-pound crane was being used for a construction project near I-95 when the accident occured.

An official with the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection said the crane was being used to for construction of a private access road.

The crane fell over and into a neighboring parking lot at a shopping center just off of East Main Street.

An ambulance transported the crane operator to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.

DEEP says the crane had a 100-gallon hydraulic fluid tank and that a minor amount of the contents spilled. Officials say there is no impact to the nearby river.

Investigators are trying to determine what caused the crane to fall down.

Officials expect the crane company to provide a larger crane later in the day to help bring the damaged crane upright.
