Detectives from Connecticut State Police are investigating a bank robbery that happened in Putnam on Saturday afternoon.
Police say they responded to People's Bank inside of the Stop and Shop grocery store on Providence Pike in Putnam shortly after 4:00 p.m.
Bank employees told officers that a man approached the teller station and passed the teller a hand written note demanding money. They said the suspect also handed the teller a plastic bag and demanded large bill denominations. The suspect was persistent, according to bank employees, and told the teller, "don't make me take this out of my waistband," implying he had a weapon.
The suspect is being described as a man who is approximately 5'7" to 5'9" tall with an average to husky build, light blue eyes and clean shaven with brown hair, according to police. He was wearing a dark-colored tee shirt, dark pants, a light-colored baseball style hat without a logo and had a key-type lanyard hanging from his front left pocket.
Officers say the suspect left Stop and Shop after receiving an undetermined amount of money and fled on foot to a vehicle waiting in the parking lot. The vehicle is being described as a dark-colored, possibly four-door sedan, but the make and model are unknown, according to police.
