Gas Station Robbery Suspect Runs Out of Gas

The suspect didn't get far after allegedly robbing a Hamden gas station.

A suspect who fled from police after allegedly robbing a gas station, was arrested after his SUV ran out of gas.

Mike Crandell, 22, robbed the Sam's Food Mart at 3394 Whitney Avenue around 2 a.m. Sunday, according to police. He threatened to shoot the clerk if the clerk didn't hand over the money, police said.

Crandell then allegedly drove north on Route 10 into Cheshire where he was spotted by police. Officers chased Crandell towards I-691, but the suspect's SUV ran out of gas as he approached the entrance to the highway, according to the Waterbury Republican-American.

Crandell fled on foot, but officers quickly caught up to him, police said. Cheshire police turned him over to Hamden officers.

Crandell is charged with first-degree robbery. He was held on $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 23.
