Man Charged With Murder-for-Hire Plot Was Set Up: Lawyer

A attorney for a New Britain man who has been charged in a murder-for-hire plot said police set up his client.

Talal Qatabi, 22, of New Britain, was held on $750,000 bond on Tuesday at his arraignment on attempt to commit murder and drug charges.

Police said the warrant is sealed and they could not provide additional information about the alleged plot.

But Qatabi's attorney, Jon Schoenhorn, said his client and several others saw a Facebook video showing a man making threats with a life.

He said Qatabi "made the mistake of commenting on that video."

An informant then approached Qatabi and offered to kill the man in the video for $1,500, a price Schoenhorn called "absurd." He said no money was exchanged.
