Man Who Hit Teen Was Fleeing From Police: Cops

Teen was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The man accused of striking a bicyclist in Manchester on Sunday morning who later died was fleeing from police at a DUI checkpoint, Manchester police said on Monday afternoon.

A Manchester Police Officer saw Jonathan Feliz, 24, of Manchester, speeding on Hartford Road around 1 a.m. and pulled out to stop him, but Feliz made a quick turn down Waddell Road, then turned onto Bunce Drive where, he struck a parked vehicle, police said. 

Feliz turned back onto Hartford Road, ran a red light at Hartford Road and McKee Street and struck a bicycle ridden by Steven Henry, 18, of East Hartford, police said.

After hitting Henry, Feliz’s car rolled several times, then hit a gas pump at the Mobil Gas Station and he had to be extricated.

Henry was transported to St. Francis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Feliz was transported to Hartford Hospital and remains in critical condition.

The Metro Traffic Services Unit is investigating.
