An East Hartford woman is dead and state police have taken over the investigation after Waneeza Shaw was hit by two vehicles on Thursday evening. One of the vehicles was an East Hartford Police cruiser.
Shaw, whose age has not been released, was struck around 6:40 p.m. while crossing Burnside Avenue at Walnut Street.
A Tolland man struck Shaw and she fell to the ground, police said. Seconds later, an East Hartford police officer struck her.
Shaw was taken to Hartford Hospital. On Friday morning, police said she succumbed to her injuries.
The State’s Attorney and the East Hartford Chief of Police asked State Police to step in and take over the investigation.
The crash remains under investigation.
