Police Working on Arrest Warrant in Hit-and-Run of Officer

Police have applied for an arrest warrant in the hit-and-run that killed a Danbury police officer.

Donald Hassiak II, of New Milford, was riding his bicycle to work at 10:30 p.m. on June 3 when he was struck. The driver fled, police said, but police have had a person of interest and the vehicle they believe was involved.

New Milford police have submitted an application for an arrest warrant to prosecutors, who returned it for “some additional work,” the Danbury News-Times reports.

"We want to make sure that when the case moves forward, we have everything we need," Capt. Michael Mrazik, a spokesman for the New Milford Police Department, told the News-Times. "We are dotting the I's and crossing the T's."

Hassiak leaves his wife, Kim, and their three sons, Matthew, 8, Luke, 6, and Donald Jr., 4.

A memorial fund has been set up Hassiak’s wife and children.
