Polo Anyone?

When you think about the game of polo, the Town of Preston probably isn't the first place to come to mind.

But a Rhode Island group wants to put a polo club and playing field along Route 2, The Day of New London reported.

The land near Preston Plains School is owned by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe. It's tribal property that is subject to local taxes and land-use regulations, according to the paper.

"At this time, we are in the early stages of discussion, and a formal agreement has not yet been completed," Tribal Council Vice Chairman Richard Sebastian told The Day.

Sebastian identified the Rhode Island group as "Cavison". Cavison Polo Group LLC was formed in 2008, according to the paper.

Preston First Selectman Robert Congdon told The Day nothing has been filed with the town, but the plan seems to fit the requirements for the site's commercial zoning. Congdon said it didn't appear the project would hit many snags.
