Salvation Army Delivers 800 Meals On Wheels

Annual program provides hot meals to elderly and home-bound

The spirit of giving filled hundreds of homes as volunteers delivered hot meals to those who are homebound over the holidays. It's all part of the Salvation Army's Meals on Wheels program.

Steve Adler, his wife Darlene and their son Josh have been delivering meals on Christmas Day for the past 13 years. They say they've begun to think of the people they see year after year on Christmas day as family, like Robert Walker.

Mr. Walker and so many others who had meals delivered were quick to thank the Salvation Army for providing this program year after year saying, "The myriad of things they do is wonderful and I'm blessed and thankful we have such an organization. "

For the 42nd year the Salvation Army provided hot holiday meals to the elderly and homebound individuals. The volunteers each delivered anywhere from 15 to 25 meals. In total, nearly 800 meals were delivered. Major Douglas Hart with the Salvation Army said hundreds today will not only get a meal but, "More important than that they're going to get a personal touch. People are going to be visiting them and they don't have family around and that's probably the most important reason for this activity."
