Search for Turkey Hunters Turned Up Pot Instead

A search for illegal turkey hunters turned into a drug bust in Cornwall.

Timothy Hogan, 50, of Newington, was arrested Tuesday in connection with the April incident.

State Department of Environmental Protection Conservation Police officers noticed a vehicle in a privately-owned wooded area off Everest Hill in Cornwall April 26, according to the DEP.

Being that it was two days before the start of turkey hunting season, the officers thought they had some illegal hunters on their hands. But as they investigated, they found large amounts of marijuana growing in the woods and two men dressed in camouflage who took off when they spotted the officers.

The officers caught up with Gary Hall, 54, of Goshen right away, but Hogan got away, a DEP spokesperson said. They charged him Tuesday with cultivation of marijuana, interfering with an officer and criminal trespass.

Hall faces similar charges, including possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia.
