Second Suspect Charged in New Britain Murder

The man was already in jail for shooting his victim once before, according to police.

Days after police have made an arrest in the November 2010 murder of a man in New Britain, they have charged a second man.

Richard Ruiz, 22, of New Britain, was charged in connection with the shooting death of Jorge David Aponte.

When police responded to Black Rock Avenue on Nov. 14, 2010, they found Aponte suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the hospital, but died a short time later.

Ruiz was charged with conspiracy to commit murder. He has been incarcerated since Nov. 15, 2011, accused of shooting Andino on Sept. 29, 2010 on South Whiting Street in New Britain.

Ruiz is being held on a $1 million bond. He was being held on $250,000 for the previous charge.

On Monday, police arrested Victor Andino, 35, and charged him with murder, criminal use of a firearm and criminal possession of a firearm. He has been in jail since October 2011, accused of the prior shooting.

Andino is being held on $1 million bond on the murder charges. He was already being held on $900,000 bond on the original shooting charges.

Police said they expect to make more arrests in the murder case.
