Showings of Support for Trayvon Martin

Several rallies are planned statewide to show solidarity for the family of the Florida teenager.

Connecticut residents are echoing the calls of people nationwide for an arrest in last month's shooting death of Trayvon Martin, of Florida.

The 17-year-old was unarmed when he was shot and killed by neighborhood watch volunteer, George Zimmerman, who claims he acted in self defense, according to multiple news reports.

Several rallies were held in Connecticut last week and the movement is showing no signs of slowing down.

In Hartford, people will take to the streets on Saturday to show support for Martin's family.

A rally will take place at 10 a.m. the intersection of Albany Avenue and Main Street in Hartford's North End.

Mayor Pedro Segarra and several city council members will be among those speaking at the rally.

The Black Student Alliance at Yale will hold a rally from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on March 31. Organizers will meet at the Dixwell "Q" House and continue to the New Haven Green.

On Sunday, April 1, the NCAACP will hold a Justice for Trayvon, Justice for New London rally at 4 p.m. at Parade Plaza, at the corner of Bank and State streets.
