Students Head Back to School in Farmington, Hamden and Waterbury

Monday was the first day of school for students in Farmington, Waterbury and Hamden.

Students, parents and teachers all said they were excited to begin another year of learning.

“They are very excited,” said Michael Hadvab, who has two sons enrolled in Farmington schools. “They were actually pushing me out of the door, which is a change because usually I’m out there pushing them out the door.”

Jose Vera traveled from Puerto Rico to see his son off to his first day of school in Waterbury.

“We’re happy, I’m happy to be with him a couple of days because I have to go back,” Vera said.

School administrators and teachers have been preparing for weeks. Many said they were feeling rejuvenated and ready for a fresh start.

“It’s exciting, we’re energized, we’re happy to see our students come back. It’s a great first day,” said Jade Gopie, the principal of Crosby High School.
