Suspect Killed, Cop Stabbed

Desjon Edwards, 27, was upset and out of control when his mother called 911Monday night and asked for help, according to police, and that led to a Waterford officer being stabbed and a cop shooting and killing the suspect.

Edwards’ mother called 911 for help at the Windy Ridge Place home shortly after 11 p.m., state police said.

Police arrived and tried several times to calm and subdue Edwards before he lunged at one of the cops and stabbed him, police said.

An officer shot Edwards, who was taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London, where he died on the operating table at 3 a.m. Tuesday, according to police.

Town police called in state troopers to investigate Monday night's shooting.

Authorities have not released the name of the 42-year-old injured officer. A spokesman at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London said the officer has been released.

The Office of the Chief State's Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the exact manner and cause of death.
